Cooling Refrigerants of the Future.

Refrigerants are liquids stored in your air conditioner’s coils that cool and dehumidify indoor air. If we didn’t have refrigerants, we wouldn’t have air conditioning. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 because of its destructive impact to the environment.

Introducing R-410A

R-410ATo reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now engineered to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and doesn’t contain chlorine, which means it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in Springfield because it’ll help make your cooling system work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months.

Additional Considerations

If your AC or heat pump was manufactured anytime before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You may want to think about upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is ultimately out of production. The old refrigerant will become rare in the next few years, costing you more to operate your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Bormida Mechanical Services Inc work with R-410A, so you know we have an AC or heat pump you can better rely on. You should also avoid”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
