What To Do When the Heat Goes Out03/08/2017Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little misfortune, but we sometimes see heat pump issues in Springfield during the winter time, when they’re necessary to keep you warm. While you know the team at Bormida Mechanical Services Inc will forever be there ASAP when you need us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to confirm that a repair is necessary and save yourself some cash if it’s not. We’ve gathered this checklist of things to try before you give us a call. It may sound strange, but make sure everything is set to “on”. We’ve been to several calls only to discover the thermostat or the heat pump itself is set to off. Inspect your thermostat to guarantee it’s on, set to the appropriate temperature and isn’t fixed to cool. Then try swapping out the battery, if it has one. If everything looks right, check your furnace switch (check your manual if you’re hesitant about where it is) and check your fuses and circuit breaker. Make sure your gas is on. If the furnace still hasn’t kicked on, return to your thermostat. If it’s a programmable model, confirm that it’s displaying the proper time. If it thinks it’s morning when it’s actually night, it may not turn your heat on because it doesn’t understand that you’re home. Is a blockage causing your furnace to fail? Check your air filters to ensure they’re not jamming things up. Do you have any congested ducts, vents or cool air intakes? Are all supply registers accessible? Is your exhaust flue clear? If you’ve worked through this checklist and you’re still lacking heat, call Bormida Mechanical Services Inc at 217-210-2662 or set up an appointment online and we’ll get your home back to the warm and cozy place it should be.
